1
A blind manworks on wood the same way as a surgeon on the body, when he`s ignorant of anatomy.
—— Guy de Chauliac, 1300—1368
2
A few couples of years spent in the dissection room will save time in the later years by increasing operating speed.
—— Arthur E. Hertzler, 1870-1946
3
A bad anatomist can be a reckless butcher, but not an artistic surgeon.
—— Augustus Charles Bernays, 1854-1907
4
Surgeons and anatomists see no beautiful women in their lives, but only a ghastly stack of bones with Latin names to them, and a network of nerves and muscles and tissues inflamed by disease.
——Mark Twain,1835-1910
5
Who learn his anatomy only from books should operate on books only.
6
This is all very fine, but it won’t do—Anatomy— Botany—Nonsense! Sir, I know an old woman in Covent Garden who understands botany better, and as for anatomy, my butcher can dissect a joint full and well; no, young man, all that is stuff; you must go to the bedside, it is there alone you can learn disease.
—— Thomas Sydenham, 1624–1689
7
You will have to learn many tedious things which you will forget the moment you have passed your final examination, but in anatomy it is better to have learned and lost than never to have learned at all.
—— W. Somerset Maughan,1874–1965
8
Anatomy is for physiology what geography is for the historian: it describes the scene of action.

An intimate knowledge of physiology is necessary to make a successful operator as is anatomy.
—— Augustus Charles Bernays, 1854-1907
10
It has been said that an anatomist never made a good surgeon, that it was the pathologist who made the surgeon.
—— William J. Mayo,1861-1939

—— August Bier, 1861-1949
13
The liver confound the surgeon‘s dependence on anatomy.
—— J. Foster
